So this summer has so far been hot. Very hot. Something to which the members of Twinhead became all too familiar during our performance of Donkey Punch!, a satirical-idealistic-nonsensical political variety show meant to kick off election season that instead became an exercise in torture for all inside. Lenny's air conditioning was apparently on the fritz, and giant fans only pushed around the thick blanket of smoldering air hovering somewhere around 112ยบ; nevertheless, our audience was captivated (or at least melted to their seats), and they stayed 'til the end, our performance by that time having been so warped by the mangled thoughts of the heat stroke victims onstage that it was a miracle we even finished. So monumental discomfort, sure, but it was rewarding. Though I'll never forget the horrible moment of biting into an orange we used as a prop for the show and experiencing that hot orange is disgusting.
Cabbagetown: I want to call it home. Katie and Jamie just packed up and left the yuppie dregs of Candler Park for a duplex on the edge of Memorial, overlooking Oakland Cemetery, and we've been over quite a few times since. Going for a walk in Cabbagetown is very unlike doing the same anywhere else in Atlanta: the cats are friendly, the drug dealers are friendly, even the groups of bicycle-straddling, cigarette-smoking hipsters stop to wave and say hi. There's little use for a car in Cabbagetown, there are no crack pipes in the playground (maybe rolling papers), and as opposed to nearby Edgewood Retail's four, there are absolutely no Starbucks. Young, old, black, and white live together in the best example of harmony in Atlanta, and this part of the city isn't even too busy to hate.
So summer's best so far has offered up several Cabbagetown walks, a number of debaucherous nights at the newborn Midway Pub in the Village, plenty of industrious nights working on Twinhead's upcoming murder mystery, a beautiful day among our animal friends at the zoo, and of course, that memorable show at Lenny's.
And this is where I've been during my days:

Yay for the Emory tour! And hooray for Cabbagetown. I'm so glad you love the house and neighborhood as much as we do.
A lovely post. This summer has been fantastic so far, and I expect we will have even better times to come!
